ALVAR LINDBERG, Winterset

Alvar "Swede" Lindberg, 86, died June 13, 1993 at Bethesda Care Center in Winterset. Funeral services will be held Thurs., June 17 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Bauer officiating. Burial will be at the Winterset Cemetery.

Mr. Lindberg was born February 21, 1907 in Smalland District, Sweden. He came to the U.S. at the age of six and lived in Aurellia. He married Gwendolyn LaBron, August 13, 1933 in an airplane over Storm Lake. He lived in Winterset for 55 years, owning and operating Lindy's Motel and working for E. I. Sargent Quarries as a heavy machinery operator for 30 years. He was a member of Lakeview Country Club and the Winterset Flying Club. He also was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church.

He was preceded in death by one brother.

Surviving relatives include his wife, Gwendolyn of Winterset; a brother, Harry Swanson of Aurellia; two sisters, Margaret Cushman of Segine, Texas; Vera Silseth of Milwaukee, Wis.; a nephew, Larry Thorpe of Belize, Central America; a niece Linda Wenger and husband Lee, daughter Kelly of Winterset, their granddaughter Mekenzie and numerous nieces and nephews.
