GALE KIRKLAND Died on Sunday

Gale Kirkland, a widely known Madison county automobile dealer, died Sunday, Oct. 27, 1957, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, after a lingering illness. He was 64 years of age.

Mr. Kirkland was a life-long resident of Madison county. During most of his active life he had been engaged in the automobile business as salesman and dealer, for many years at Macksburg, and for the last 21 years in Winterset. In recent years he had operated the Studebaker, Packard, Buick, Pontiac dealerships in this community.

He was born near Macksburg, March 23, 1893, a son of Thomas and Mahala Shaw Kirkland. He was married Nov. 9, 1913, to Pearl Cain, who survives him.

He was a member of the Methodist church and of the I.O.O.F. lodge at Macksburg.

In addition to his wife, he leaves two sons, Rex and Edwin Kirkland, both of Winterset; a grandson; two sisters, Mrs. Lillie Hamblin of Macksburg and Mrs. Anna Lee of Los Angeles, Calif., a brother, Will Kirkland of Macksburg; five step-grandchildren; and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist Church. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
