Dean Brooks, St. Charles

Dean Thomas Brooks, 86, of St. Charles died May 21, 2003, at the Kavanagh House in West Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 214, at St. Charles Parish Church with the Revs. Darold Snow and Sandra Smith officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Dean Brooks was born Oct. 28, 1916 to H. V. and Ethel (Frasher) Brooks of St. Charles. He received his education in the St. Charles School District, graduating in 1934. On Oct. 29, 1939 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Youmans in Truro. Dean served with the United States Army during World War II. Following his military service, he became the owner/operator of Brooks Grocery Store in St. Charles, retiring in 1982. He was a member of the St. Charles Parish Church. St. Charles Lions Club, Model Lodge 315 A.F.& A.M. of St. Charles (50 years), Order of the Eastern Star Model Chapter 174 of St. Charles and the V.F.W. in Winterset.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Dale Brooks.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of St. Charles; two sons, Gary Brooks of St. Charles and Tom Brooks of Des Moines; a sister, Delores Kale of Longmont, Colo.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Kavanagh House in West Des Moines or St. Charles Parish Church.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
