Anna Fern Shearer, 100, died Jan. 25, 2003, at Panora Nursing and Rehab Center.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 30, at Macksburg United Methodist Church. Burial was at Moon Cemetery, Grand River Township, Madison County.
Fern Shearer was born June 11, 1902, to Calvin Schutz and Bertha (Means) Schutz of Macksburg. She attended Schutz country school and Macksburg High School (a two-year high school), graduating in 1918. The family moved to Indianola where she graduated from Indianola High School in 1921. She continued her education at Simpson College in Indianola for two years. Her first teaching position was at Kasson (Monroe Township). Fern also taught at Snodgrass, Macksburg and Larrabee.
On Jan. 1, 1927, she married Thaddeus A. Moore in Emerson. Following his death, she and her children moved back to Macksburg. On March 13, 1955, she married Emery Shearer. She was a member of the Omicron Society at Simpson College, Eastern Star in Massena, Macksburg Fun Band and a lifetime member of the Macksburg United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three sons, Andrew, James and Kenneth Moore; two sisters and two brothers.
She is survived by a son, Carroll Moore of Carson City, Nev.; three daughers, Anne Deaver of Lansdale, Pa., Mary Carper of Panora and LaRose Nelson of Stanton; two step-daughters, Doris Bailey of Winterset and Vivian Smith of Waukee; a stepson, Dean Shearer of Carrollton, Texas; 23 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
