FUNERAL HELD FOR DR. BROOKS

Well-Known Dentist At St. Charles Dies At 83 Years

Funeral services for Dr. H. V. Brooks, well-known St. Charles dentist for 55 years, were to be held this Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 3 from the Christian church in St. Charles.

Dr. Brooks died Dec. 31 at Madison County Memorial hospital following a 10-day illness. He was 83 years of age.

A son of Thomas S. and Henrietta Roberts Brooks, he was born Feb. 14, 1884 at Wayland, Iowa.

He was married to Ethel Frasher on Jan. 1, 1905 at Wayland. They were parents of three children, all of whom survive.

Following graduation from the University of Iowa college of Dentistry, Dr. Brooks started practice in St. Charles in July of 1912. He continued to practice his profession until his last illness, and was unusually active in community affairs over a long period of years.

Dr. Brooks served as St. Charles city clerk for 20 years, was postmaster for 19 years, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star, a past president of the school board and an active member of the Christian church

He is survived by his wife, Ethel; two sons, Dale of Des Moines and Dean of St. Charles; one daughter, Dolores, Mrs. Marvin Kale of Lubbock, Tex., eight grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren; and one sister, Miss Nellie Brooks of Wayland.

Officiating at the funeral service Wednesday afternoon was the Rev. Tom Foglesong of Des Moines. Burial was in the St. Charles cemetery.
