Claren L. Phearman, 66, of Los Gatos, Calif., died of congestive heart failure Feb. 17, 1996 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, Calif.

He was born in Dexter on Sept. 20, 1929 to Carl and Bernice (Cox) Phearman. He married Ruth Smith on Nov. 29, 1955. He had served in the Navy during the Korean War, 1950-1954. He retired in 1989 as an engineer with IBM.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Surviving relatives include one sister, Velma Anderson of Des Moines; five daughters, Roberta Gibson, Karen Orlando, Laree Foster, Gwen Moody, and Faye Groelz, all of Santa Clara County in California.
