Maud E. Smith

EARLHAM-A funeral for Maud E. Smith, formerly of Earlham, was held Oct. 5, 1992 at the First Presbyterian Church at Earlham. A service was held Oct. 22 at Hansen Mortuary Chapel at Phoenix, Ariz. Burial took place later at the Earlham Cemetery at Earlham. Mrs. Smith died of cancer Sept. 30.

The daughter of the late George Brainard and Minnie Proctor Frederick, she was born at Webster on Aug. 4, 1901. She married Glenn F. Smith on March 10, 1920. They lived in Iowa until 1936 when the family moved to Wisconsin, residing in the White Rapids area many years. They lived in Appleton before moving back to Iowa upon retirement. Mrs. Smith was a Sunday school teacher in her church and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president of the All America Unit at Earlham.

She was preceded in death by her husband; by one son, Dale William Smith; by five sisters and by three brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Martha L Van Toll of Phoenix; one son, Keith Smith of Appleton, Wis.; one sister, Gertrude Dalen of Earlham; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granchild (grandchild).
