Kenneth R. Helmers, Winterset

Services for Kenneth R. Helmers, 76, Winterset, who died Jan. 1 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center, were held Saturday, Jan. 3, at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. John Shaull officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born at LaHarpe, Ill., on Nov. 23, 1910, he was the son of Michael and Ida May Bennett Helmers. He was a retired nursing home administrator and had lived in this area for 16 years, coming from Harlan, Iowa.

Mr. Helmers was a member of the First Baptist Church of Winterset and a nursing home administrator since 1959, a licensed lay pastor, a leader of senior adults of the First Baptist Church, a church deacon, and a chaplain with local nursing homes.

He was also a member of the Kiwanis Club, and a member of the watchmaker and jewelers association of North Dakota, and a member of Men with Vision. On Nov. 17, 1938, he was married to Bernice L. Lutz at Cooperstown, N.D.

Survivors include his wife of Winterset; a son, Darrell Ray Helmers of Greeley, Colo.; daughters, Marilyn Ann Woodruff of Wheaton, Ill., and Bernadine Ray Rouel of Marion; a sister, Goldie Rossiter of Everett, Wash.; 14 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Athalie Clark Helmers in 1937, and his parents.
