Lester O. Root, Winterset

Funeral services were held Friday, December 18 at the First United Methodist Church for Lester O. Root of Winterset.

Mr. Root died Dec. 15 at Lakeland General Hospital in Lakeland, Fla. He was 72 years old.

Born March 13, 1909, in Dustin, Nebraska, he was the son of James and Ethel Horton Root. On May 23, 1965, he married Ellen Bane in Maryville, Mo. Mr. Root was a retired farmer and a member of the Holiday Rambler Travel Club.

Survivors include his wife; 1 son, Leslie of Central City; a step-son, Jerry Bane of Winterset; 4 daughters including Naomi Hill and Shirley Jurgenson of Winterset, Lois Priest of Des Moines and Carol Downing of Manley; 2 step-daughters, Mary Louise DeVault of Winterset and Barbara Bodwell of Quincy, Ill.; 1 brother, Larry Root of Atkinson, Neb.; 29 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and his first wife Hazel.

Burial was at Winterset Cemetery with Rev. Byron Ayers officiating.
