MARTHA McDONALD OF WINTERSET DIES

Had Been Madison County Resident for Past 62 Years

Mrs. Martha McDonald, a resident of Madison county for the past 62 years, died at her home in Winterset, last Thursday after a week’s illness. She was 80 years of age.

Mrs. McDonald was born near Petersburg, Illinois, on September 30, 1856. She was daughter of Samuel and Rachel Wilcox. As a young woman she was married to Robert Armstrong. Shortly after their marriage, they came to Madison county, settling on a farm here. Later they moved to Winterset, Mr. Armstrong engaging in the implement business here.

Mr. and Mrs. Armstrong were the parents of one child, the present Mrs. Sylvia Smith of Winterset. Mr. Armstrong died in 1906.

In 1907, she was married to W. C. McDonald of Winterset, who preceded her in death 20 years ago.

In addition to the daughter, Mrs. Jack Smith, Mrs. McDonald is survived by a brother, Will Wilcox of Peoria, Illinois, and the eight children of her second husband: Will McDonald, Mrs. Nancy Bowers, Mrs. Lutie Bruett, Mrs. Viola Wolverton, Mrs. Joah Anna Ogden, George McDonald, Mrs. Mary Binns and Henderson McDonald.

Funeral services were held from the Tidrick funeral home last Saturday, in charge of the Rev. W. G. Robertson, pastor of the United Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
