LAWRENCE E. GARDNER, Des Moines

Lawrence E. Gardner, a former resident, died at his Des Moines home Sept. 2, 1984.

Mr. Gardner was born Sept. 8, 1931 in Winterset, the son of Clarence S. and Zoe I. Gardner.

He graduated from Winterset High School and Drake University College of Law where he was awarded the Order of the Coif, and Beta Gamma Sigma in Business Administration.

In 1952 he was united in marriage with Leona M. Farlin at Columbis, Ga. He served in Korea and received the Bronze Star for meritorious service. He was a graduate of the Army War College, Carlyle Barracks, Pa., and was a Colonel in active military reserve until 1972.

He practiced law and was associated with Bankers Life Insurance Co., and American Mutual Life where he was a CLU member. He later established his own specialized real estate and investment business.

In 1980 he was stricken with brain cancer, and suffered a massive stroke in 1982. His body has been donated to the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

He is survived by his wife, Leona, daughter Janean of Minneapolis, son Alan of Des Moines, his mother, Zoe I. Gardner, a resident of Bethesda Care Center, and a sister, Wilma Eyerly of Mesa, Arizona. His father and an infant sister preceded him in death.
