Blanche Ellen Clausen, 93, of Earlham died of heart failure Aug. 26, 1998, at Integrated Health Services in Winterset where she had resided since April.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 29, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter with the Rev. Linden Wendzel officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.

Blanche Clausen was born Nov. 8, 1904 in Madison County to Marion and Harriet Addy. She attended Earlham Academy and spent her early years working for neighboring farm families. She married Pete Petersen in 1928. Following Pete's death in 1956, Blanche married Richard Clausen in 1962. They resided on a farm south of Dexter. She moved to Earlham in 1985 following Rich's death. Blanche was a member of the Joie-De-Vie Club for approximately 60 years and was an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter since 1962.

She is survived by two sons, Harry Petersen (wife Sylva) of Winterset and Richard Petersen (wife Caroline) of Rock Falls; two stepsons, Jim Clausen (wife Vivian) of Dexter and Ben Clausen of Greenfield; one stepdaughter, Zelda Paullin (husband Jim) of Greenfield; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kuhn Funeral Home in Dexter.

Blanche Ellen Clausen was born in Madison County east of Earlham, the daughter of Harriet and Marion Addy, and has spent her entire life in the Earlham vicinity. Blanche graduated the eighth grade from country school and attended Earlham Academy. Her early years were spent working for neighboring farm families.

Later, Blanche began working at the Harry Foster farm where she stayed until her marriage to Pete Petersen. Blanche continued working at the Foster farm until the Fosters retired and moved into Earlham.

Blanche and Pete were married in 1928. The Petersens had two sons, Harry Petersen, who now resides in Winterset, and Richard Petersen, who now resides in Rock Falls, Iowa.

Pete Petersen passed away in 1956 and Blanche remarried Richard Clausen in 1962. Blanche joined Rich at his farm south of Dexter where she remained until his passing in 1985. At this time, Blanche moved to the Madison manor apartments in Earlham where she lived until April of this year. Since April Blanche has resided at the HIS home in Winterset.

Blanche’s hobbies have included gardening, cooking, reading, and sewing. Blanche has been a member of the Joie-De-Vie Club for over 60 years and has been an active member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Dexter since 1962.

Blanche leaves to survive her memory her son, Harry Petersen and wife Sylva, of Winterset, Iowa; and their children, Lyla Dunmire and husband Rick of Winterset; Steve Benge and wife Connie of Winterset; LeRoy Benge and wife Sue; son Richard Petersen and wife Caroline, and their children Kelly Petersen of Maryville, Missouri, Scott Petersen and wife Brenda of Fredericksburg, Iowa, Martin Petersen of Ames, Iowa; step-son Jim Clausen and wife Vivian of Dexter, Iowa, stepson Ben Clausen of Greenfield, Iowa; stepdaughter Zelda Paullin and husband Jim of Greenfield, Iowa; along with 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Interment was in Earlham Cemetery.
