March 1, 2006Jessie Bernice Gates, 86, died Feb. 21, 2006, of renal kidney failure at her St. Charles home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Charles Parish Church with Pastor David Stout and the Rev. Sandy Smith officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.
Bernice Gates was born Aug. 1, 1919, in Des Moines to Claude and Margaret (Murphy) Day. Bernice co-owned and operated an apple orchard and the Gates Café in St. Charles where she lived for over 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jack Roland Daniels and Cecil Owen Gates.
She is survived by five sons, Larry Daniels of Windsor Heights, Art Daniels of New Virginia, and Claude Daniels, Jack Daniels and Ed Daniels, all of St. Charles; three daughters, Julie Daniels of St. Charles, Joyce Daniels of Iowa City and Cape Coral, Fla., and Bea Gracey of Seattle, Wash.; and 23 grandchildren and numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.
