Delno “Del” Warren Maddy, 86, of Winterset died Feb. 21, 2006, at Winterset Care Center North from complications associated with Alzheimer’s.
A memorial service was held Friday, Feb. 24, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with Pastor Bill Branson officiating. A second memorial service was held Saturday, Feb. 25, at Monroe United Methodist Church with Pastor Harold Koughn officiating. Burial of the cremated remains was at Olive Chapel Cemetery in rural Attica.
Del Maddy was born Sept. 17, 1919, in Columbia, Iowa, to Frank and Mary (Kutz) Maddy. He was a graduate of Knoxville High School where he received numerous musical awards. On Sept. 14, 1941, he married Betty Frye. Following her death, he later married Daisy (Lenocker) Clements on March 26, 1988. Del farmed in rural Attica until moving to Pleasantville where he started a dairy business, which included manufacturing Maddy Dairy Ice Cream. In 1964, he and Betty started a franchise with Dairy Sweet in Monroe. He moved to Winterset after his marriage to Daisy.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty; a sister, Hollace Garrett; and a stepson, Dennis Clements.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy, of Winterset; two sons, Frank Maddy of Bluff Dale, Texas and Richard Maddy of Bremerton, Wash.; one daughter, Roxanna “Sue” Miller of Oskaloosa; three stepdaughters, Diana Partlow of Menlo, Darcy Livingston of Winterset and Deb Stover of Lorimor; a brother, John Maddy of Des Moines; and 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Winterset Care Center North, Middle River Hospice of Winterset or the Monroe United Methodist Church Choir.
