Funeral services for Opal M. Wilkie were held at the Methodist church in Earlham on Thursday, June 27, with the Rev. Harold Vaughn of Van Meter, officiating.

Mrs. Wilkie passed away at the University Hospital in Iowa City of June 25 at the age of 47 years.

Born in Van Meter she attended grade school at Booneville and high school at Van Meter. Following her marriage to Vern Wilkie she spent the remainder of her life near Earlham.

She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs. John Clark, of Van Meter and Betty of Des Moines. Also three grandchildren, her mother, Mrs. Joseph Earp, of Adel; one sister, Mrs. Ed Evans of Des Moines; two brothers, Earl Earp of Wisconsin and Darrell Earp of Minnesota.

MRS. OPAL M. EARP WILKIE

Mrs. Opal M. Earp Wilkie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Earp, was born September 2, 1909, at Van Meter, Iowa. She passed away, at the age of 47 years at the University Hospital at Iowa City, on June 25, 1957. Her death was attributed to injuries resulting from a fall at her home on Sunday, June 23.

Mrs. Wilkie received her education in the grades at Booneville and graduated from Van Meter High School.

On January 5, 1929 she was joined in matrimony to Vern Wilkie and spent the remainder of her life in the Earlham community.

To this union was born two daughters, Bonnie (Mrs. John Clark of Van Meter) and Betty.

Mrs. Wilkie was always interested in the welfare of her family and worked earnestly for the good of her community. She was an active member of the Methodist church at DeSoto; a member of the DeSoto Ladies Aid; American Legion Auxiliary having been past president of the Earlham unit and held District office. She was also a member of the Earlham Saddle Club. She was a volunteer worker for several years at the Woodward State Hospital and the Veterans Administration Hospital in Des Moines. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge at Earlham.

She is survived by her husband, Vern; two daughters, Mrs. John Clark of Van Meter and Betty of Des Moines. Also three grandchildren, Diana, Gary and Randy; her mother, Mrs. Joe Earp of Adel; on sister, Mrs. Ed Evans of Des Moines and two brothers, Earl of Wisconsin and Darrell of Minnesota. One brother, Otis was killed in action during World War II.

Services were held at the Earlham Methodist church on Thursday, June 27, with the Rev. Harold Vaughn officiating. Casket bearers were: Jim Wilkie, Jim Hunter, Vern Spillers, John Brown, Ervin Bentler and Jake Cushing. Lodge honors were bestowed by the Earlham Rebekah Lodge. Burial was at the Earlham cemetery.

She will be missed by the Earlham community and by her family.
