The Winterset Madisonian
Winterset, Iowa
December 1922Mrs. James McGlothlen
Josephine Rice, daughter of Ananias and Katharine Rice, was born Feb. 1, 1854 and died on the morning of Dec. 16, 1922, at the age of 68 years, 10 months and 15 days. Her childhood was spent in the neighborhood of Carlisle, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to James McGlothlen, July 4, 1875 and after a short time they moved to Madison county, where they were happily located on the farm. In later years they moved to Winterset and here their last days were spent in retired life.
She made a trip with her companion in 1906, and found much joy in living over the experiences of those day.
Mrs. McGlothlen united with the Church of Christ while yet a young lady, and she was a humble but willing Christian worker to the time of her going away.
Last May, Mr. McGlothlen passed away and since that time the health of Mrs. McGlothlen rapidly failed. She leaves to hold her in fond memory one brother, Austin of Carlisle, Iowa; and four sisters, Mrs. Sarah Mason of Santa Monica, Calif.; Mrs. Maud Hall, Des Moines; Mrs. Luella Lowder, Carlisle and Mrs. Malinda Morris, who was living with Mrs. McGlothlen during her last days. A goodly circle of sympathetic friends and kind hearted neighbors also cherish her memory.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday afternoon at one o'clock from the Church of Christ by E. B. Chancellor. Burial in the Winterset cemetery.
