John A. Webb was born in Yadkin county, North Carolina, Nov. 18, 1848, and died February 2d, 1911, at East Bend, N. C., at the age of 62 years, 2 months and 15 days. He came to Illinois in 1873 and was married to Miss Mary Forbes in the year 1876. To this union were born three children, Edward, Gertrude and Carl, all of whom survive him. The mother passed to her eternal home in the year 1896.

Mr. Webb was again united in marriage to Mrs. Mary Davis in the year 1898, who with two children, John and Earl, survive him.

He came to Winterset in 1893, where he resided until eight years ago when he moved to Warrensburg, Mo. He with his family remained there until two months ago, when he moved to East Bend N. C., his old home, thinking it would benefit his health.

When quite young he professes faith in Christ and has lived a consistent Christian life ever since. When he came to Winterset, united with the United Presbyterian Church and soon afterwards was elected a ruling elder. When he removed to Warrensburg, Mo., his membership was transferred to the Presbyterian church and soon afterwards was elected ruling elder in this church, which office he served efficiently until God called him to a higher service.

Mr. Webb was a man who had a very wide circle of friends. He was always good to the poor and those needing help. He was ever ready to do what he could to point others to better things. He was very highly respected by all who knew him. Everywhere you here words of commendation of his strong Christian character. Such a man still lives in the hearts and lives of all who knew him.
