Obituary Notice of Mrs. Eliza Rhodes

Eliza Frances Adams was born in Boling Green, Ky., June 1st, 1818. In early childhood she came with her parents to McClain county, Ill. In 1836 she was united in marriage to Jas. S. Rhodes, who died nine years ago.

The family came to Winterset in the year 1855, and with the exception of ten years spent in Polk county, they have resided in Madison county ever since.

To this union were born nine children, six of whom are still living, and four of which were present at the funeral. She leaves the six children, sixty-five grandchildren and fifty-three great grandchildren, besides a host of friends to mourn her loss.

The children are P. M., residing at Woodson, Kansas, Mrs. M. M. Jacks, of Gifford, Idaho, Mrs. Burd, of Rawlins county, Kansas, J. T. Rhodes, of Chesley, Idaho, W. C. Rhodes, of Winterset, and Mrs. Mattie Soderland, of Winterset.

Grandma Rhodes became a christian in early life, uniting with the Church of Christ, of which she was a faithful member at the time of her death. She was always glad for a visit from any christian and loved to talk of a home in heaven, and always inquired about the church, others as well as her own.

The funeral service was held from the home in this city on Tuesday, with short services there, and the sermon at the Christian Union church at Ord. The services were conducted by E. E. Bennett, of the Christian church at Winterset, and the remains were tenderly laid to rest in the Clark cemetery.
