MAXINE ORWAN

Maxine Luferne Orwan, 88, of Winterset died March 14, 2006, at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.

Funeral services were held Friday, March 17, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset. Burial was at Lorimor Cemetery.

Maxine Orwan was born Aug. 7, 1917, to George and Ethel Detty of rural Afton. On May 3, 1935, she married William “Bill” Orwan. They resided in Lorimor throughout most of their marriage, except during World War II, when they lived in Omaha, Neb. Maxine was a member of the Lorimor Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. She later was a member of the Word of Life Church in rural Winterset where she and her husband were involved with the Children’s Church. She also was active in volunteer work at the hospital and care centers in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two grandsons, Randy Stephens and Monty King; one great-granddaughter, Kelcie Stephens; a brother, Gordon Detty; and two sisters, Enid Oswald and Mildred Smith.

She is survived by two daughters, Pat Stephens of Lorimor and Sharon King of Treynor; and eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a cause to be determined at a later date.
