DWIGHT DOWNS, St. Charles

Dwight Frank Downs, 89, of St. Charles died Oct. 23, 2004, at his home.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the St. Charles Parish Church with the Rev. Darold Snow officiating. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery.

Dwight Downs was born Oct. 9, 1915, to Frank and Zella (Sankey) Downs of rural St. Charles. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1933 and began farming. On Oct. 5, 1940, he was united in marriage to Thelma Glee Wharff in Winterset. Dwight, a farmer, also was a seed dealer for DeKalb Seed for over 25 years. For a few years, in the early 1950s, he and his family had resided in Bradenton, Fla. He served on the school boards for St. Marys, St. Charles and Interstate 35. He was a member of the St. Charles Parish Church, Model Lodge 315 A.F. & A.M. in St. Charles (70 plus years) and Model Chapter 174 Order of the Eastern Star in St. Charles (50 plus years).

He was preceded in death by one son, Cecil Glenn; a sister, Mary Crawford; and four brothers, Cash, Carl, Don and Rex.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma, of St. Charles; two daughters, Barbara Ann Duggin of Hendersonville, N.C., and Elizabeth Allsup of St. Charles; one son, Frank Downs of Boone; a sister, Florence Eichner of Van Meter; and three grandchildren and one stepgranddaughter.

Funeral arrangements were handled by Kale Funeral Homes of Osceola and Truro.

St Charles

Dwight Frank Downs, 89, died at his home Saturday due to cancer. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Charles Parish Church. Dwight was born in St Charles and spent a majority of his life as a farmer in the area.

The family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday evening at the Kale Funeral Home in Osceola.

Dwight is survived by his wife, Thelma; daughter, Barbara Ann (David) Duggin of Hendersonville, NC; Son Frank (Linda) Downs of Boone, daughter Elizabeth (Steve) Allsup of St. Charles.

The family suggests memorials to Middle River Hospice of the St. Charles Parish Church.
