Funeral services for Ernest A. Marquardt, 89, were held Thurs., April 11 at Trinity Lutheran Church, rural Van Meter with the Rev. Raymond Fechner officiating. Mr. Marquardt died April 8l at Earlham Care Center, where he was a resident.
Born in Madison County January 17, 1902, he was the son of Wilhelm and Emma (Bernau) Marquardt. He graduated from Van Meter High School in 1920 and attended Iowa State College, studying elecrical engineering. On June 9, 1931, he married Myrtle Addy.
He was employed as a mechanic in Van Meter and co-owned an auto agency in Paullina for several years before returning to Earlham where he worked as a mechanic and service technician. He retired from his own business, Ernie's TV in 1973.
He was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church, a charter member of the original Earlham Lions Club, and served as the board member of Pioneer Place Retirement Center.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and two sisters.
Surviving are his son, Lyle and wife, Barbara, of Earlham and two grandchildren.
Burial was in the church cemetery.
