The Winterset Madisonian
Winterset, Iowa
Wednesday, August 14, 1912
Page 1George Lucas was born Nov. 29, 1854, on what was known as the W. G. Lucas farm just northwest of Winterset and died at his home in Winterset, Aug. 10, 1912. He had lived in or near Winterset during his whole life. By reason of his long residence here, he was well known by many, and especially by the older residents of the county, but as he was of a retiring disposition, he had few close associates.
His last sickness was marked by the patience and fortitude attendant on that sickness. For many weeks, he had borne the most severe pain with never a word of complaint.
He leaves to mourn his loss, his wife, Sarah E. Lucas and four daughters and two sons, Mrs. J. H. Kirby, Oscar Lucas, Clarence Lucas, Mrs. Earl Welch and Edna Lucas, all of this county, and Mrs. Fred Shearer of Portland, Ore., all of whom were with him at the time of his death.
