Francis E. Jackson, a widely known farmer and sales barn operator in this community, died suddenly at his home just west of Winterset Sunday morning, June 11, 1961. He was 48 years of age. He was preparing to leave on a fishing trip when fatally stricken with a heart attack.
Mr. Jackson was a life-long resident of this community. He was born near Winterset July 12, 1912, a son of William and Edith Fleener Jackson. Following the death of his mother, he was reared in the home of his great uncle, Thomas Hircock.
His early life was spent in farming. In 1947 he built the Madison county Auction barn, and operated that business until 1953, when he suffered his first heart attack. He continued ownership of the business, although he had relinquished its actual operation.
Mr. Jackson was married Dec. 25, 1937, to Thelma Garland of Winterset, who survives him. He also leaves three brothers, George, Embree and John R. Jackson of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Poland of Winterset, and 14 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Winterset Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John C. Porath, assisted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz. Burial was to be made in Winterset Cemetery.
