LORAN JACKSON Died on Sunday

Illness of nearly seven months ended Sunday, July 1, 1951, in the death of Loran W. Jackson, well-known Winterset business man and civic leader. His death occurred at the Memorial hospital where he had been a patient for the past five weeks.

Mr. Jackson was stricken with a heart ailment last fall, and since that time his condition had grown progressively worse. He was 45 years of age.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Jackson, he was born at Winterset November 17, 1905, and had spent his entire life here with the exception of two years.

Mr. Jackson had operated the Jackson Electric shop in Winterset for the past 12 years. He was a charter member of the Winterset Lions club, of which he was a past president. He also was a zone chairman of Lions International, and had the distinction of having attended five international conventions of the order. He had also served two terms as a member of the Winterset school board.

Mr. Jackson was married in Des Moines, on Aug. 19, 1929, to Miss Margaret Durnell, who survives him. They were the parents of three daughters, Suzanne, aged 16, Lorean, aged 13, and Marla, aged 11. In addition to the wife and children, he also leaves a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Poland of Winterset; and four brothers, George, Francis, Embree, and John Jackson, all of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Winterset Methodist church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Glenn Parrott. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

As a courtesy to the deceased, the stores and business houses of Winterset closed for one hour Tuesday, during the services. It was one of the largest funerals in recent Winterset history.
