PANORA-A funeral for Richard E. Bacon, 63, of Panora, was held June 13 at First Christian Church in Panora. Mr. Bacon died of a stroke June 11 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Burial was at the West Linn Cemetery.
Mr. Bacon was born in Iowa City in 1928, attending school in Panora and graduating from Earlham High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1946 to 1950. He married Barbara Simpson in Norfolk, Va. On October 1, 1949, and attended Norfolk business University before moving back to Iowa in 1951. From 1957 until his retirement in 1983 he worked for the Ford Implement Plant, with the last 10 years spent in Michigan. In 1983 he and his family moved to their farm near Panora.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara; son, Richard Jr. of Pleasant Hill; two daughters, Marily Boeke of Runnells and Ivie Love of Winterset; grandchildren Karen, Becky and Angela Bacon, Christopher Boeke, and Tonia and Shawn Love; grandmother, Iva C. Moore of Des Moines; mother, Wilma Bacon of Panora; eight brothers, Dwayne, Loren, Roger and Jim of Des Moines, Denny and Gary of Grimes, and Larry and Tom of Panora; and two sisters, Ruby Aldrich of Adel and Jolene Bucklew of Perry.
