Death Forces Cancellation of Golden Wedding Day Observance

Clarence R. Fife of St. Charles, a life-long resident of Madison county Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 73 years of age.

Mr. Fife was born in this county May 7, 1889 a son of David and Mary Gilleland Fife. He was married Feb. 12, 1913 to Florence Marston. They were scheduled to observe their Golden Wedding anniversary Sunday.

Mr. Fife farmed in Jackson township for 30 years, prior to his retirement in 1954, when he moved to St. Charles.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian church at St. Charles.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Eldon Fife of Mineola; three daughters, Mrs. Lura Beaman of St. Charles, Mrs. Laura Welch of Belle Plaine, and Mrs. Francis Hood of Indianola; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren; He also leaves four sisters, Mrs. Clifford DeVault of Dexter, Mrs. Della Cameron of Bevington, Mrs. Edgar Drake and Mrs. Fred Niblo of Winterset; and two brothers, Bervin Fife of Winterset and Kenneth Fife of Des Moines.

Funeral services were to be held this Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John Fink. Burial was to be made in the St. Charles cemetery.
