Willa Sorensen, 82, of Winterset, died of a heart ailment Nov. 15, 1996 at the Hospice Kavanaugh House in Des Moines. Funeral services were Nov. 19 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Pastor Jonathan Gaul officiated the services and burial was at the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth.
She was born in Versailes, Mo., on Sept. 11, 1914 to Robert Frank and Lenora (Scott) Crane. She married Raymond E. Sorensen on June 26, 1937 in Tama.
She was a graduate of Iowa State Teacher's College (U.N.I.) in Cedar Falls. She was a homemaker and a retired third grade teacher with the Winterset Elementary School, having taught school from the '60s through the early 1970s. She had been a resident of Winterset for the past 29 years. She was a member of the P.E.O.; Tri-L; Winterset Antique Club; Women's Club; and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters; and one grandson.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Ray Eric Sorensen and wife Sandy of Maryville, Mo., and Jon Hans Sorensen and wife Pam of Denver, Colo.; three daughters, Karen Christine Snyder and husband Peter of Malibu, Calif., Sonja Sorensen Craig and husband John of St. Cloud, Minn., and Kirsten Sorensen Canzone and husband Peter of Bristol, R.I.; five sisters, Darlene Hawkins of Chillicothe, Mo., Emma Nan LaMotte of Boone, Mildred Koehler of Yardly, Penn., Helen Philips of Calimesa, Calif., and Loan Krumlinde of Charles City; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
