Member of Well-Known Penn Township Family Was 81 Years of Age

Mrs. Guy W. Lenocker, a resident of the Dexter community since early life, died last Thursday May 7, at a Des Moines hospital, after a short illness. She was 81 years of age.

Mrs. Lenocker was the former Ora Alice Morford, daughter of John Jasper and Della Allen Morford. She was born Nov. 30, 1882 at North Henderson, Ill. When she was 7 years old, the family moved to near Dexter, where she graduated from Dexter Normal school with the class of 1901. She taught school in Penn township the following year.

On June 25, 1902, she was married to Guy W. Lenocker. They farmed in Penn township until their retirement in 1938, when they moved into Dexter. They observed their Golden Wedding day there on June 25, 1952. Mr. Lenocker died in 1957 and Mrs. Lenocker was preceded in death also by a son, Fred Lenocker, in 1959, and a granddaughter, Marie Algreen.

She leaves seven children: Fern Algreen of Dexter, Paul Lenocker of Redfield, Fred and Jasper Lenocker of Dexter, Mrs. Mary Shields of Alexandria, Va., Ray M. Lenocker of Dexter, and Mrs. Ruth Leftis of Aurora, Colo. She also leaves 19 grandchildren; four sister, Mrs. Nettie Moore of Dexter, Mrs. Lena Myers of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mrs. Blanche Pitman of Rio, Ill., and Mrs. Ruth Cumings of Sturart; and two brothers, Fred Morford of Dexter and Hazen Morford of Earlham.

Mrs. Lenocker was a member of the Penn Center Methodist church and for 49 years a member of the Rebekah lodge at Dexter. She was also active in the American Legion auxiliary, the Navy Mothers club of America, the Golden Age club, and the W.S.C.S. of the Methodist church.

Funeral services were held from the Dexter Methodist church, in charge of the Rev. John M. Latta. Burial was made in Penn Center cemetery.

MRS. ORA LENOCKER

Funeral services were held at the Dexter Methodist church on Sunday afternoon, May 10, 1964 for Ora Lenocker who passed away at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines on May 7, after an illness of two weeks. The Reverend John Latta, pastor of the church, was in charge of the service. Music was furnished by Robert Lawson, organist, and by the Rev. Latta as soloist.

Caring for the lovely floral offerings were Mesdames John Moreland, James Adkins, Maurice Boyle and Roy Evans. The casket bearers were Richard Clausen, Francis Hochstetler, James Adkins, Ward Paullin, Russell Horn and James Graham.

The interment was in the Penn Center cemetery. The Evans Funeral Home, Dexter, conducted the service.

ORA ALICE LENOCKER

Ora Alice Morford was born at North Henderson, Illinois on November 30, 1882, the second daughter of Della Allen and John Jasper Morford. She passed away May 7, 1964, at the Methodist hospital in Des Moines following an illness and hospitalization of only two weeks.

When Ora was seven years old, she moved with the Morford family near Dexter, where she attended the rural schools. She graduated from the Dexter Normal School in 1901 and taught school in Penn township the following year.

On June 25, 1902, she was married to Guy W. Lenocker in a ceremony at the home of her parents. Mr. and Mrs. Lenocker made their home on a farm south of Dexter. The marriage was richly blessed by eight children who, excepting Robert who died in infancy, grew to adulthood on the family farm. Mr. and Mrs. Lenocker retired to town of Dexter in 1939, and on June 25, 1952, they had the privilege of observing their golden wedding day with their seven living children present, namely; Fern Algreen, Dexter; Paul, Redfield; Fred and Jasper, Dexter; Mary Shields, Alexandria, Virginia; Ray, Dexter; and Ruth Loftis of Aurora, Colorado.

Mr. Lenocker passed away on May 20, 1957, after a long illness, and their son, Fred, died of a sudden heart attack exactly five years ago on May 7, 1959. Ora was also preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lillian Leeper, and one granddaughter, Marie Algreen. Surviving besides her six children are 19 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, also four sisters, Nettie Moore of Dexter; Lena Myers, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Blanche Pitman, Rio, Illinois and Ruth Cummings of near Stuart; and two brothers, Fred Morford of Dexter, and Hazen Morford of rural Earlham, and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Mrs. Lenocker was a member of the Penn Center Methodist church, and a 49-year member of the Eva Ann Rebekah Lodge of Dexter. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary, the Navy Mothers Club of America, the Golden Age Club, and WSCS of the Methodist church and other social groups. She will be remembered always as a loving wife and wonderful mother, as well as a kind and thoughtful friend and neighbor. For the past several years, Ora has been renowned in the community for her fine cooking and tireless devotion to all tasks before her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
