Donald Ross, Earlham

Donald Richard Ross, 88, of Earlham died Dec. 22, 2003, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 27, at Kuhn Funeral Home in Earlham with Pastor Mike Evans officiating. Burial was at Earlham Cemetery.

Don Ross was born June 27, 1915, to Homer Leo and Verna Merle (Richard) Ross of Beach, N.D. He and his family moved from Beach to Humeston in 1919 when he was age 4. He attended country school in rural Leon, graduating from Humeston High School in 1933. After high school, he farmed with his father. They moved to the Iowa State Fair grounds for a year in 1934 before renting the Corey farm east of Earlham in 1935. On July 3, 1937, Don married Hazel in Grant City, Mo. He and his wife, along with their children, moved to their own farm west of Earlham in 1944. He devoted his life to farming and raising registered Hereford cattle. He was a member of the American Hereford Association, Madison County Farm Bureau, Earlham Masonic Lodge and United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.

He is survived by a son, Jim Ross of Earlham; two daughters, Marilyn Jennings of Snohomish, Wash., and Patricia Altwegg of Clive; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
