Services for Agnes Alyce Hawthorne, 88, Des Moines, who died Oct. 9, 1984, at Calvin Manor in Des Moines where she had made her home since 1977 were held Friday, Oct. 12 at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with the Rev. Claude Jones officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.
Born in Nodaway County, Mo., on March 8, 1896, she was the daughter of John Walter and Lillias McKie Berry. She had lived in Winterset since 1955 and was an artist and beauty operator.
On Jan. 2, 1919 at Clarinda, she married Raymond Hawthorne. She was a member of the Winterset United Presbyterian Church, an associate member of the Douglas Eastern Star, Current Topic Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, Winterset Art Center, Winterset Music Club and the State China Decorator's Club.
Survivors include a son, Robert of Malcomb, Ill; daughters, Virginia (Mrs. Bernal) Wedemeyer of Des Moines and Mrs. Marcia Biggs of Exira; sisters, Clara Brandt of Calvin Manor and Janet Schall of Loveland, Colo.; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother and a sister.
