Death of Mrs. Kinsman

Miss Nannie S. Ward was born at Heath, Mass., March 10th, 1849. When about four years of age she came with her parents to Bureau county, Ill. Here she grew to womanhood and here she was married to Herman A. Kinsman, March 10th, 1870.

They came at once to Madison county, Iowa, whither some of the relatives had preceeded them, and a week later began the home, which for thirty-six years has been a place of blessing to all who have partaken of its cheer and helpfulness. Four children have been born to them, a son, who died in childhood, and Misses Jennie W., Faith D. and Priscilla M., who with the husband remain to mourn their loss, and who were with her at the end, except Jennie, absent at college. Though hardly in her usual health since the holidays, yet death came unexpectedly and after two days illness the Master called her up higher on Sabbath morning March 25, 1906. And she needed no urging to accept the call. Her's was a llife of peculiar readiness to receive the summons.

On May 10, 1872, she united with the Presbyterian church of this city by profession of her faith in Jesus Christ, and for a little more than a third of a century she has been a faithful, consistent member. To her, religion was of the first importance, and Christian duty took precedence of every thing else. She was deeply interested in everything that concerned the Kingdom of God throughout the world and devoted to the interests of her own church. In her, her pastor always found a tried and true friend, a wise counsellor and a willing helper. A constant Bible student with a quiet trust and a firm clear hold upon the promises, her's was a peculiarly strong life, though quiet, retiring in disposition, she had for every one a broad charity and a big open heart. Among her neighbors and in her church fellowship many have felt the sweetness and power of her helpful life, and strong men and women are saying, "She was more a 'mother,' to me than any one I ever knew." "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord, from hence foreth, yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them."
