L. F. PORTER Dies at 103

The longest life span in the history of Madison county came to an end Saturday, Sept. 8, 1973, with the death of Lewis F. Porter of Peru at the age of 103 years.

Mr. Porter lived practically all his life in the Peru community, but had made his home with a daughter in Creston the last seven years. His death occurred at Greater Community hospital in Creston.

Mr. Porter was born at Peru Aug. 20, 1870, a son of Isaac and Louisa Hogg Porter. His active life was spent in farming in that community. He was married in 1894 to Nettie Hann, whose death occurred in 1897. In 1902 he was married to Mary Ellen White. She also preceded him in death in 1957.

In 1901 he joined the Masonic lodge at Peru, transferring to the Winterset lodge in 1964.

Mr. Porter is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Ethel Johnson of Creston, Mrs. Effie Tollenaar of Des Moines, and Mrs. Mabel Davis of Long Beach, Calif.; and a son Frank Porter of Oneida, Ill. He also leaves five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the Peru Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. Paul Hann of Winterset. Burial was made in the Peru Cemetery.
