Gaylon Edgar Clague, 89, died of cancer March 9, 1999 at Integrated Health Services in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 13, at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset with the Rev. Bob Epperson officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
Gaylon Clague was born Jan 31, 1910 on the family farm in Douglas Township to Edgar and Delora Mae (Kingery) Clague. He attended Douglas Township School and graduated from Winterset High School. A lifetime resident of Madison County, he was a retired farmer. He married June Letz on Aug. 11, 1929. To this union were born three daughters. June died in 1965. On Jan 2, 1966, he married Laura Datwyler in Madison County. In his spare time, Gaylon had recorded the family's chapter of the Clague history, which was later printed. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
He is survived by his wife Laura; three daughters, Shirley (husband Russell) and Connie Ramsey (husband Rodney) all of Earlham and Sharon Moore (husband Dale) of Ft. Dodge; 8 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer, Hospice of Central Iowa or Madison County Memorial Hospital.
