Edgar Clague of Winterset, well-known Madison county retired farmer, died Sunday Sept. 23, at Villa West Care center here. He was 91 years of age.
Mr. Clague was a native of Warren county, Illinois, where he was born June 17, 1882, but had lived the last 81 years of his life in Madison county.
Mr. Clague was a leader in the organization of the U.S. department of agriculture's farm program in Madison County. He served as chairman of the first Madison county AAA committee, and was a member of that committee for several years.
He was a son of Thomas and Mary Ray Clague. He was married to Delora Kingery on Jan. 4, 1905. Her death occurred in 1948. On March 9, 1949, he was married to Lillyan Creek, who survives him.
Mr. Clague was a member of the First Christian church of Winterset, and a former member of the Odd Fellows lodge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Gaylon Clague of Earlham; three grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Ralph Clague of Winterset and a sister, Mrs. Mable Hamilton of Georgetown, Texas. Five brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held this Tuesday from the First Christian church here, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. E. E. Jandebeur. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
