Mrs. Ella Hays, widow of Thomas Hays died Thursday morning at St. Joseph, Mo., of apoplexy. Mrs. Hays for many years was a resident of this county. She had been in failing health for sometime, partially owing to a decay of her mental powers. Mrs. Hays and her late husband were both great favorites with their acquaintances.

Ella Amelia Manon was born in Licking county, Ohio, February 6, 1842 and died at the home of her brother, M. P. Manon, in St. Joe, Missouri, February 11, 1915, aged 73 years and 5 days.

She was married at the home of her parents, H. S. and Mary Palmerton Manon, in 1860 to Mr. Guy Wakley who died about one and one-half years after their marriage. She removed with her parents to Decatur, Illinois where she met and married Thomas H. Hays in 1865. She came with her husband to Iowa in 1869, settling in Madison county. Mr. Hays died August 29, 1910 and Mrs. Hays has since made her home with her brother, M. P. Manon. She has gradually failed until two days before her death she suffered a stroke of paralysis. She is survived by three brothers and one sister, J. T. Manon, Eureka, California; S. H. Manon, Beatrice, Nebraska; M. P. Manon, St. Joe, Missouri and a sister at Ladue, Missouri.

She united with the Early Chapel Church of Christ about 1880 and on moving to Winterset transferred her membership to the church there. She loved the church and her Master and before affliction came was faithful in her attendance.

The body was brought to Winterset February 12 and short services were held at the Church of Christ and also at the Worthington church, conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis and interment in the Worthington cemetery.
