MARCUS J. BOYCE Dies at 89 Years

Marcus J. Boyce, one of Madison county's most widely known farmers, died Wednesday of last week at his home in Douglas township. He was 89 years of age. He had been in failing health for the past two years.

Mr. Boyce was the son of Samuel M. and Anna Mary Boyce, and was born Feb. 25, 1857, near Middletown, in Des Moines county. When he was orphaned at the age of 14 years, he came to live with an uncle, Daniel Mitchell, near Des Moines.

He was married Sept. 2, 1890, to Grace Smith of Winterset. They established their home on a farm in Douglas township which he had purchased in 1882, and there their married life was spent.

He is survived by his widow; and eight children; Earnest Boyce of Ann Arbor, Mich., Joe Boyce of Whittier, Calif., Hugh Boyce of Lawrence, Kan., Dan Boyce and Mrs. Martha Thomas of Winterset, Mrs. Ruth Stringham of Lawrence, Kan., Mrs. Alma Bunnell of Cedar Falls, and Bertha Boyce of Sacramento, Calif. He also leaves 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held last Friday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Joe Cochrane of Cedar Falls. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
