Jessie Young, Winterset

Jessie Elizabeth Young, 81, of Winterset, died of a heart ailment Oct. 31, 1996 at the Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset. Funeral services were Nov. 4 at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Pastor Don Frank officiated the services and burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

She was born in Madison County on July 4, 1915 to Asahel Earnest and Mary Jane (Jones) Read. She was a 1933 graduate of Winterset High School. She married Howard Young on Dec. 24, 1933 and was a homemaker and a lifetime resident of Madison County. She was a member of the Friendly Neighbor Club; Garden club; Women's Farm Bureau; past member of the Methodist W.S.C.S.; and a member of Wesley Chapel in Madison County.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; one half brother; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

Surviving relatives include her husband of Winterset; two daughters, Viola Briney and husband Rodger of Winterset, and Connie Dahl and husband Larry of Orient; eight sons, Jim Young and wife Joyce of Atlantic, Duane Young and wife Kathy of Greenfield, John Young of Winterset, Raymond Young and wife Pennie of Orlando, Fla., Charles Young of Lenox, Larry Young and wife Harriet of Des Moines, Gayle Young and wife Faye of Greenfield, and Robert Young and wife Mary Jane of Winterset; one brother, Nelson Read of Winterset; one sister, Kathryn Young of Winterset; 23 grandchilddren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
