Death of 75-Year-Old Local Resident Occurs at Memorial Hospital
Mrs. Laura Ladd of Winterset died Monday, Oct. 27 at Memorial hospital in Winterset, at the age of 75 years.
Mrs. Ladd was the former Laura Machian, and was born in Decatur county on March 6, 1883. She was educated at Simpson college in Indianola and Iowa State Teachers college at Cedar Falls, and as a young woman taught school for four years.
She was married in November, 1906, to William H. Clay of El Campo, Tex. They were parents of a daughter, Georgianne, now Mrs. Bob Ferguson of California.
In 1926 she was married to John Ladd of Winterset. They were parents of a son, John Ladd, Jr., now a member of the U. S. Air corps.
She was a life-long member of the Methodist church.
In addition to the daughter and son, she leaves three grandchildren; three sisters, Mrs. Amy Truitt of Des Moines, Mrs. Ethel Arnold of Allerton, and Mrs. Pauline Ford of Indianola; and three brothers, George Machian of Ringgold, Nebr., Russell Machian of Mullen, Nebr., and the Rev. Howard Machian of Goldfield.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 2 p.m. from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. W. W. Steinmetz, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Indianola cemetery.
