Death of Rev. W. L. Torrence

St. Charles. Dec. 24th – Special:

The Rev. William Leslie Torrence, son of the Rev. James T., and Sarah Belle Leslie Torrence, was born March 5, 1871, and died in the M. E. hospital in Peoria, Illinois, aged 57 years, - months, and 14 days. On November 1, 1899, he was united in marriage to Miss Margaret Dill, of Eskridge, Kansas. To this union were born five children, Edna, wife of Professor J. Campbell; Martin of Coleraine, Minnesota, who has three sons, Leslie, of Decatur City, who has a wife and one son, Melville, of St. Charles, who is also married, and Mildred and Mabel, who are still in the home. His wife and all of the children, except Edna, were present at the funeral.

Rev. Torrence was pastor here in the United Presbyterian church. He came here from Mt. Ayr, the latter part of August, 1923, where he remains until November 1925, going from here to Tilden, Illinois, and going from there to Washburn, Illinois, September, 1927, where he was pastor until his death. His body was brought back here last Thursday morning.

Funeral services were conducted in the United Presbyterian church at 1:30 o’clock, by the Rev. C. E. Carnthan, of this place, assisted by Rev. W. C. Porter, of Winterset, and his remains were laid to rest in the St. Charles cemetery, west of town.
