Pearl McFarlin, Winterset

Pearl L. McFarlin, 97, died of multi-organ failure Nov. 13, 2002, at Winterset Care Center North.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 16, at Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset with the Rev. Sandra Smith officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.

Pearl McFarlin was born April 14, 1905, in Marshalltown to Fred and Clara (Robertson) Downs. A graduate of Stuart High School, she married Lloyd McFarlin on Sept. 30, 1922, in Stuart. A lifelong area resident, Pearl was a member of the Pythian Sisters, Women's Relief Group and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. She was selected "Mother of the Year" for Madison County in 1951.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a daughter, a son, a great-granddaughter, three foster sons, a brother, eight sisters, a daughter-in-law and two sons-in-law.

She is survived by three daughters, Roberta Kay of Des Moines, Myrna Read (husband Paul) of Maryville, Mo., and Marcia Gibson (husband Bill) of Lorimor; two sons, Robert McFarlin (wife Ann) of Des Moines and Richard McFarlin of Ames; a daughter-in-law, Wilma McFarlin of Clinton, Mo.; three sisters, Charlotte Lonigan (husband Don) of Boone, Doris Mowen of Des Moines and Irene Whatoff (husband Vernard) of Ames; 18 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Winterset Care Center North of Middle River Hospice in Winterset.
