Former Justice McFarlin Dies

Lloyd Y. McFarlin, a Justice of the Peace in Madison County for the previous eight and a half years, died Wednesday, October 3, 1973 in Madison County Memorial Hospital at the age of 75.

Mr. McFarlin was born May 11, 1898 in Clinton County, Iowa, the son of Charles A. McFarlin and the former Mary Jane Johnson. He was married to Pearl Downs on September 30, 1922 in Guthrie Center, Iowa.

A resident of Madison County for most of his life, Mr. McFarlin practised farming and was retired at the time of his appointment as Justice of the Peace.

Mr. McFarlin was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church of Winterset and a member of the Knights of Pythias Lodge.

Surviving is his wife, Pearl McFarlin of Winterset; three sons, Charles of Winterset, Robert of Des Moines and Richard of Ames; Four daughters, LaMarian Howard of St. Charles, Roberta Kay of Des Moines, Marcia Gibson of Winterset and Myrna Read of Tampa, Florida; 18 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Also surviving Mr. McFarlin are three sisters, Mrs. Nina Algreen of Dexter, Mrs. Alice Butler of Colfax and Vianna Strabler of Rawlins, Wyoming.

Mr. McFarlin was preceded in death by one brother, one sister and a daughter-in-law.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 5, 1973 at 1:30 p.m. from the First United Methodist Church of Winterset with burial at the Winterset Cemetery.

Officiating was the Rev. Paul Bousfield.
