Life-Time Resident Here Was 59 Years of Age At Death
Joe W. Rowe, last surviving member of a formerly well-known Winterset family, died Monday, May 17 at a Des Moines hospital. He had been taken ill suddenly the preceding day.
Mr. Rowe was 59 years of age at his death. He was the youngest child of Phillip J. and Martha Walker Rowe. He was born in Winterset Dec. 31, 1905, and spent his entire life here. He worked as a painter for many years.
He served in the U.S. army during World War II.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Bruce and Tom Rowe, and by his four sisters, Mrs. Rebbecca Leech, Mrs. Jessie Henry, Mrs. Nellie Baird and Mrs. Effie Van Arsdel.
Funeral services will be held this Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John Porath, pastor of the First Methodist church of Winterset. Burial will be made in Winterset cemetery, with military honors by Green-Rogers post of the American Legion.
