Winterset Madisonian - June 1906

Mary Jane Bush was born in Johnston county, Ind., Jan. 1st, 1833, and died at her home near Winterset, June 22nd, 1906, aged seventy-three years, five months and twenty-two days.

She moved with her parents to Mahaska county, in 1846, where she was united in marriage to Harrison Adair in 1852. To them were born two children, the elder son, John, survives her, the other dying in infancy. This husband died in Madison county in the year 1855.

She was again united in marriage to Alfred Norris in 1859. To this union were born eight children, Oscar, Lusetta, Kate, Frank, Jud, Ella, Addie and Minnie, all of whom survive her, (Her husband died in 1894), and were at her bedisde during her last illness at death.

She united with the Methodist church at Fairview in 1854, was one of the pioneer Methodists of Madison county. When she moved near Worthington, she united by letter to that church and in 1904 to the Methodist church at Winterset of which she was a member at the time of her death. She was a consistent christian, assuring her family and friends that she was ready to go to a home where her sufferings would cease. She bid all of her children good-bye and asked them to meet her in a better land. She leaves a brother, sister, nine children, twelve grandchildren and a host of kind friends to mourn for her.

The funeral occurred from the home at 1 p.m. Sunday, conducted by her pastor, R. W. Matheney, and the interment took place at the Bennett cemetery north of town. That she was beloved by all was demonstrated by the large concourse of friends who accompanied her to her last resting place.
