DALE HANSON Of Winterset Dies

Dale R. Hanson, a well-known Wintersest resident, died Friday, Dec. 14, 1962, at Memorial hospital in Winterset, after a brief illness. He was 63 years of age.

Mr. Hanson had retired in 1961 after more than 30 years of service as a rural carrier from the Winterset post office. During those years he had carried three of the rural routes here, starting on Route 5, then Route 3, and finally Route 1.

Prior to entering the postal service he had served as the Des Moines Register and Tribune agent in Winterset for several years. Since his retirement he had operated his own radio and television service.

Mr. Hanson had lived practically all his life in Madison county. He was born at Murray, July 21, 1899, a son of Hans Christian and Ida Hoyt Hanson. As a young man he attended Oak Park academy in Nevada, Ia., Union college in Lincoln, Nebr., and for three and a half years studied at the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.

On Dec. 24, 1925, he was married here to Lucille Clark of Winterset. Their home always has been in this community.

Mr. Hanson was a long-time member of the First Christian Church of Winterset, in which he took an active part in the many phases of church work. He was an elder, chairman of the building fund committee, and had been a trustee of the church, currently being on a year's mandatory retirement from that office.

He was particularly active in church youth work. He had taught Sunday school for many years and with his wife had served as sponsor of the youth group. He had served as a Youth conference counselor and was one of the two Winterset representatives to the state conferences on youth work sponsored by the Iowa Society of Christian Churches.

Through all of his business and church activities over a long period of years, he became one of this community's most widely known and most highly respected citizens.

Mr. Hanson is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Lester Kuhns of Davenport and Mrs. Robert Hewitt of Arcadia, Calif.; two grandchildren, Joni and Jayne Kuhns of Davenport; a brother Cecil Hanson of Staples, Minn.; and a foster daughter, Mrs. Velva Achenbaugh of Henderson.

Funeral services were held Monday from the First Christian Church of Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Robert Owens. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
