JAMES T. TIERNAN PASSED LAST WEEK

Had Spent Entire Life on Lee Township Farm Where He Was Born

James T. Tiernan, a well known Lee township farmer, died at his home there on Wednesday of last week as the result of a stroke. He had been fatally ill for about two weeks, although he had been in failing health for a longer period of time. He was 65 years of age.

Mr. Tiernan was born and spent his entire life on the farm where his death occurred. He was the son of John and Ellen Reagan Tiernan and was born Nov. 10, 1879.

He was married in 1907 to Katherine Waldron. They were the parents of seven children. The older girl, Rose, was killed in an automobile accident in 1935. The wife and mother died last November.

Mr. Tiernan was widely known throughout Madison county through his interest in politics. He was a Republican leader in his community and the county, and at one time was a candidate for the state legislature from this county.

He is survived by one daughter, Katherine, at home; four sons, John Tiernan at home, St.Sgt James T. Tiernan of the U.S. Army, Giles Tiernan of Des Moines and Sgt. Francis Tiernan who is with the U.S army in Germany. He also leaves a brother, P. J. Tiernan of Booneville.

Funeral services were held July 14 from St. Patrick's Catholic church in Lee township, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. J. Reynolds. Burial was made in the cemetery there.
