BEN B. DAVIS, SR. Died Saturday

Ben B. Davis, Sr., of Winterset, a retired farmer and carpenter who had lived practically all his life in Madison County, died Saturday, April 25, 1964, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robert Stessman of Des Moines. He was 80 years of age.

Mr. Davis was born in Winterset Feb. 29, 1884, a son of Levi Ben and Catherine Henning Davis. He was married April 17, 1904 at Guthrie Center, to Millie Palmer who preceded him in death. They were parents of three sons and a daughter. One of the sons, Samuel, died in 1957.

His father, a United Brethren minister, served as a chaplain in the Civil War.

Mr. Davis is survived by two sons, Harvey L. Davis and Ben B. Davis, Jr., both of Winterset; the daughter, Mrs. Blanche Stessman of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Kathryne Preston of Winterset.

Funeral services were held Monday from the Collins Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Marvin Behrens, pastor of the St. Paul Lutheran church here. Burial was made in the Primitive Baptist cemetery.

Family and Friends Attend Davis Rites

Among the relatives and friends who were here from a distance Monday to attend funeral services for Ben B. Davis Sr. were Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Davis of Longmont, Colorado, Levi Preston of Hampton, Mrs. Allen Wendler of Iowa City, Mrs. Lee Evans of Oakdale, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Stessman of Panama, Mr. and Mrs. Robert R. Stessman of Sioux City, Mr. and Mrs. Delmer Jeneary of Grand Junction.

Also Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Faux of Fr. Dodge, Mr. and Mr. Glen Beattey of Creston, Lillian West and Harley Capp of Nivenville, Hugh and Ruth Peak of Afton, Lee Evans of Macksburg, Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Stessman, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Evans, Mrs. Carl Givans and Kay McCauley of Des Moines.
