Mabel Lucile Smith, 81, of Winterset died Oct. 25, 2003, of multiple organ system failure at Madison County Memorial Hospital in Winterset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Worthington United Methodist Church in Earlham with Dr. John Shaull and Pastor Lisa Locoh officiating. Burial was at Worthington Church Cemetery, Earlham.
Lucile Smith was born Jan. 11, 1922, in Madison County to Benjamin Franklin and Nettie Jane (Clague) Stanley. On Dec. 16, 1945, she married James B. Smith in Madison County. A lifetime resident of Madison County, Lucile had been a homemaker. She also was a member of the Worthington United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, V.F.W. Auxiliary and Women's Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Richard Smith; and a brother, Glen Stanley.
She is survived by a son, James Smith of Winterset; four daughters, Vera Smith of Earlham, Janet Loomis of Winterset, Nancy Brant Ahn of Maarshalltown and Vanna Anderson of Corwith; a brother, Dale Stanley of Earlham; 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Special Olympics, Health Trust Foundation or Madison County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Oak Park Chapel in Winterset.
