A well-known Winterset businesswoman and homemaker died at Madison County Memorial Hospital Sunday, March 17, 1974, following an unusual automobile accident here.
Mrs. Josephine J. Klingman, 66, was fatally injured while trying to stop her automobile, which had apparently slipped into reverse while running.
Mrs. Klingman was taken to Madison County Memorial Hospital, where she died at 11:05 a.m. of internal injuries.
Josephine Klingman was born in Winterset on September 15, 1907, the daughter of Herman and Josie Groves Kirby. She was married to John E. Klingman on August 28, 1927.
Mrs. Klingman was a lifetime resident of Madison County. In addition to being a homemaker, she was a former owner and operator of the Mode-O-Day store.
She was affiliated with the First Christian Church of Winterset. She was active in the Eastern Star Lodge, the Past Matrons Club and the Chamber of Commerce while in business. She was also active in a number of other local clubs.
She is survived by one son, Donn Klingman of LaGrange, Illinois, and by four grandchildren. Other survivors include one brother, Arthur R. (Robet) Kirby of Woodbridge, Virginia; and three sisters; Mrs. I. B. McBride of Phoenix, Arizona; Mrs. Rex Martin of Winterset; and Mrs. J. F. Hein of San Diego, California.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her husband, John, on November 23, 1972.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. this Thursday, March 21 at the First Christian Church in Winterset, with the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur presiding. Burial will be in the Winterset Cemetery.
