Donald C. Shearer, 76, of Omaha, Neb., died Sept. 1, 2002, following an extended illness.
Services were held at the Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home with Dr. Alva Clark officiating.
Don Shearer was born Nov. 20, 1925, to Claude and Berdie Shearer of Peru. A graduate of Peru High School, he joined the United States Navy, serving as a quartermaster. Upon discharge from the military, he moved to Denver, Colo., where he attended and graduated from Denver University with a bachelor's degree in merchandising. He then moved to Wichita, Kan., where he played semi-professional baseball. Don was hired by the J. C. Penney Company in Omaha, where he worked until 1957. He then joined Sears Roebuck Company and worked there until his retirement in 1987.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and two brothers.
He is survived by a daughter, Susan Shearer of Omaha; and two sisters, Berniece Miller of Wyoming and Josephine Rouse of Iowa.
