DEATH RECORD OF THE WEEK

Messenger of Death Visits Madison County Homes

Edmond Hartley died at his home in this city on Friday, April 2. The funeral services were held in the Catholic church on Monday morning.

Mr. Hartley was born in Kilkenny county, Ireland, 86 years ago. When 21 he came to this country, staying a few years in New York. Coming west he settled at Peoria, Ill., where he was married in 1854. Fourteen children were born to this union. Four died during infancy.

In 1871 the family moved to Madison county, settling on the farm on which he resided until his removal to Winterset ten years ago. Mrs. Hartley died about eight years ago.

The following children were present at the funeral: Mrs. J. E. Carney, of Scotts Bluff, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Schuler, of Cleveland, Okla.; Mrs. John Nolan of Jefferson township; Misses Kate and Agnes Hartley, T. J. and E. D. Hartley, of this city.
